I enjoyed setting up and working on a blog and also finding out about Library Thing. I also had never explored online applications and tools before. It is good to remember that there are alternative tools beyond MS Office. Patrons already want to merge the capabilities of email and software, wanting one tool to do everything. Maybe these online applications and tools are a move towards that.

I already had a Netlibrary account, but it has been a while since I have practiced with the site, and I was glad to find that my user name and password were still valid.

Podcasts

I used Podcast.net to find a podcast called Open Stacks and I added the RSS to my bloglines account. Podcast Alley and Yahoo Podcasts were good too. At CIL, another Yahoo Podcast search was mentioned: Yahoo Audio Search. Other Podcast Search directories mentioned at CIL included Podscope, Podspider, Podzinger, and Podscast Directory.

I checked out RealTravel. It is a site that lets you read travel experiences of others and use a trip planner. You can create blogs to share travel experiences and create a map of the places you have visited.

Online Applications & Tools - Zoho Writer

I liked Zoho Writer. I like the layout. And I like how you can email Word documents to your account. It is good to remember there are other tools out there in addition to Word.

Library websites, library computer classes, a lot of possible uses... It's funny to think of the steps I went through just to update a website for the library I worked at only 8 years ago. And now it is so easy to get something posted.

I think all of this is very important and we need to know it and help our patrons to do the same. It is interesting to see how Web 2.0 stuff/philosophy has merged with the Journalism field and how the News now gathers opinions from the public and sometimes gathers news itself in this way. But there will always be a need for basic computer and library skills.

I like on Technorati how entries show the time they were added. It's neat looking at stuff people have just posted minutes ago. I like how you have access to Posts, Blogs, Photos, Videos all in one site.

Del.icio.us doesn't seem real user friendly to me at first. Might be useful for using my bookmarks between computer in Ref Office and Electronic Services Desk. Good way to learn what good sites are out there that others have found.

I created a basic search roll for Cleveland area news and weather. Its neat to have one place to go to to search many different sites. I'll have to come back to this when I figure out how to put a link to my search roll in my blog. I think Bloglines would only give you the newest posts to a website, while Rollyo would give you anything that matches your search, no matter when it was posted....

I liked Flictionary, although I have yet to get one right. I liked the Camera Finder too. But having a hard time finding the list on the Flickr site of Mashups, Web apps, and Flickr tools. I have to go through her link from the 23 Things site . I'm sure the links are in plain site, but I don't see them.

Lifelong Learning Habits

The hardest lifelong learning habit for me is probably keeping the end in mind and remember the goal. The easiest is probably teaching others because I do a lot of that at the desk and computer classes. And I always learn a lot, even if it is the Beginners classes.
